Perseid's over Cottonwood Canyon

Last week I went out to Oregon's newest state park, Cottonwood Canyon to watch the Perseid Meteor shower far from any light pollution. The trek out there was definitely worth it! The Milky Way was extremely bright after the moon went down and was perfectly aligned with the John Day River as it snakes through the hilly desert.  It was awesome being able to see tons of colorful long tailed and very bright shooting stars in the very dark sky!

Mt St Helens under the stars

This past weekend I made my first trip up to Mt St Helens to make the most of the current stretch of clear weather that we are having. It was very cool getting to see the blast zone and the altered terrain caused by the 1980 eruption. It was really windy and cold on this exposed hillside, but I think it was worth braving for this shot!

Shooting star above the Gorge

On an endless quest to go through my old pictures, I stumbled upon a cool picture taken just east of Portland, Oregon from the Vista House of a shooting star above the Columbia River Gorge from a few months ago. The lights glowing in the distance are from the Bonneville Dam.  I love being able to get to some nice dark sky so easily! To bad we have so many cloudy nights in the Pacific Northwest. To see more of my star shots, check out my project, Night
